Fernanda Mateus
Fernanda, discovered her love for agriculture at age seven when she moved to Portugal to live with her farming grandmother. After studying agronomy, she spent years advising farmers before, at nearly 50, reclaiming her family’s land in Rabaças. Overcoming challenges like the 2020 wildfire, she now cultivates diverse crops using sustainable practices, emphasizing respect for nature and ancestral knowledge. A member of Bioeco, she advocates for agroecology despite policies favoring large-scale agriculture. Passionate about small-scale farming, she believes it truly sustains the world and deserves greater recognition.
