Iolanda Otero

Iolanda is a board member of the Community of Montes Vecinales in Mano Común de Tameiga, a forest park managed for the benefit of the local community. She became involved to resist a private company’s attempt to expropriate their forest for commercial development and to advance environmental projects. In a traditionally patriarchal system where men historically held decision-making roles, Iolanda champions greater participation of women.She dreams of more equitable policies and greater involvement of women in managing communal forests.
